LEICESTER; John E. Hallen, Sr, 77, of Charlton St., Rochdale, a section of Leicester, died Wednesday, June 13 at his home.
He leaves his wife of 58 years, Eleanor L. (Bouchard) Hallen, five sons; David L. Hallen and his wife Mary Beth of Antrim, NH, Paul B. Hallen of Rochdale, Brian J. Hallen and his wife Cheryl of Leicester, John E. Hallen, Jr. of Rochdale, Peter B. Hallen and his wife Lisa of Waterville, ME, two daughters; Mary Ann (Mitti) Hallen of Worcester, Rosemary Hallen of Rochdale, 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews including Mary R. Russell of Worcester.
He was pre-deceased by two sisters; M. Eileen Russell, Barbara Faucher and a brother Leo Hallen.
Born in Norwich, CT, he was the son of Leo D. & Christine (LeClair) Hallen and moved to Rochdale in 1956.
Mr. Hallen was the cemetery director at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton for 18 years, retiring in 1993 due to illness.
He was a graduate of St. Peter High School in Worcester. He was a member of St. Aloysius/St. Jude Church in Rochdale. He was a volunteer at Fairlawn Rehab Center. He was an associate member of the Seven Hills Foundation in Worcester. He was a former Little League Coach and proudly served as President.
The Hallen family received the “Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy” Special Olympics’ Award in 1994 for their family’s contributions to the MA Special Olympics’.
The family would like to thank the Overlook Masonic Hospice for their care and support given to John before his passing.
The Funeral will be Saturday, June 16 from the MORRISON-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester, with a Mass at 10 A.M. in St. Aloysius/St. Jude Church, 489 Pleasant St., Leicester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Friday from 4-8 P.M. in the funeral home.
