Mrs. Venita Harper Latham Luke of Route 1, Ambrose, Georgia, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012, at Shady Acres Health and Rehabilitation after an extended illness. Mrs. Luke was born April 3, 1932, to the late Melvin Harper Sr. and Eliza Young Harper of Ambrose. Mrs. Luke enjoyed cooking, gardening and needlework. She was of the Baptist faith, a member of the Satilla Sisters and a member of Satilla Baptist Church since 1950.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Luke was preceded in death by her first husband of thirteen years, Mr. Louis James Latham of Holt, Georgia; her second husband, Mr. Oswald Luke of Ambrose; two sisters, Ms. Shirley Harper of Ambrose and Ms. Barbara Jean Brantley of Douglas; arid one brother, the infant son of Melvin Harper Sr. and Eliza Young Harper. Mrs. Luke is survived by one brother, Mr. Melvin Harper Jr. and wife, Martha of Waycross; three sons, Mr. Randall Latham and wife, Deborah of Ambrose, Mr. Joel Latham and wife, Jo Beth of Holt, and Mr. Marcus J. Latham and wife, Althea of Douglas; eleven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 4p.m., Monday, June 11, 2012, at Satilla Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Johnson, and Rev. William Pope officiating. Internment followed at Holt Baptist Church Cemetery.
