Dorothy P. (Henderson) Jones, a recent resident of Putnam Farm, Danvers, died June 9, 2012. She was the wife of Odis L. Jones, with whom she shared sixty-four years of marriage, many of them spent in travel as a Navy wife.
Born in Boston on Dec. 6, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ruth Henderson. She was raised and educated in Portsmouth, NH.
Upon Odis’ honorable discharge from the submarine service, Dorothy and Odis settled in Chittenango, NY, with winters spent in Zephyr Hills, FL. Dorothy and Odis then lived briefly in Salem before moving recently together to Putnam Farm. She was a member of Eastern Star, and a Girl Scout Leader. Dorothy loved music and dancing, and had a wonderful sense of humor. Throughout her life she enjoyed traveling, and her skills at packing a house for moving in just days became family legend. Dorothy was a kind and sincere woman who was always willing to offer support in a loving way to all.
In addition to her husband, Dorothy is also survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Raymond Muse of Salem, MA, and Deborah and Ralph Collis of Fayetteville, NY. She was the loving grandmother of Robert and his wife Colleen Muse of Milton, MA, and William and his wife Rachel of Bradford, MA, and she was the great-grandmother of Molly and Liam Muse. She also leaves a brother, Arthur Henderson of Greenland, NH, and three sisters, Sybil Laird, Nancy Satterlee, and Sandy Russo of Ionia, MI.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Putnam Farm at Danvers for the outstanding care and concern given to Dorothy and her family.
Her Funeral Service will be Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 4PM in C.R. Lyons & Son, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will precede the service from 3-3:45PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy’s memory to Putnam Farm at Danvers, 9 Summer Street, Danvers, 01923 or to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm Street, Danvers, MA 01923.
