Stanley A. Ferris of Bridgewater, formerly of Whitman died peacefully June 9th, after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Stan was 83 years old. He was son to the late Emery and Vivian (Shurtleff ) Ferris and was the youngest of four children. He was the brother of the late Donald Ferris, Thelma Snelgrove Tannaso and Bernice ( Bunny) Young.
Growing up in Randolph, Stan was an all-star athlete in both baseball and basketball, helping the Stetson High School basketball team win a championship. For a short time, he played for the Randolph Amvets.
He served in the army as a young man before marrying the love of his life. Stan was married to his wife Shirley (Russo) Ferris for more than 60 years. The two raised their family in Whitman where Stan worked as a mail carrier for more than 41 years.
He was the proud father of and is survived by Gregg Ferris of Pembroke and Brenden Ferris and his wife Claire of Rockland. Stan was the loving grandfather to Tony, Laura, Jill, Lindsey and Whitney and recently became a first time great grandfather to Ava.
Stan was always known for being a huge dog lover. He belonged to a bowling league and enjoyed playing Bocce. He was known to be smooth on his feet and enjoyed country line dancing for years with Shirley. He was a kind hearted, sweet man and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend his services on Wednesday June 13th at 12:15PM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St.(RT58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 1:00PM in the Holy Ghost Church , Whitman. His visitation will be held on Tuesday June 12th from 4:00-7:00PM.Burial will be at a later date.
