Mr. Fred Gizzi, 90 of Medford died on Saturday in Mass. General Hospital. He is the beloved husband of the late Ruth (Sorrento) Gizzi. Born in Ortano Dei, Italy son of the late Nicholas and Diomora Gizzi, he was educated there and came to the United States at the age of 15 and settled in Boston’s North End. He has been a Medford resident since 1952. Mr. Gizzi is a veteran of the U.S. Army where he attained the rank of Sergeant and fought during WWII. He worked in the construction industry and also worked at Mike’s Pastry in the North End as a Master Cannoli Filler off and on for more than 45 years. Few Boston residents and tourists alike have not tried his wares. He enjoyed spending time in his garden, growing flowers, vegetables and grapes for an occasional home made wine recipe. He enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren was an avid fan of Wheel of Fortune and the stars of the show. He enjoyed watching Westerns as well. He will be remembered as the “Life of the Party” and was known as a great dancer. He leaves a son Nicholas Gizzi of Medford, 2 daughters, Deborah Gizzi-Valente and her husband Joseph of Medford, Susan Gizzi-Artz and her husband David of Medford. He leaves a daughter in law, Sandra Gizzi, wife of the late Joseph Gizzi and is the father of the late Angela Gizzi. Loving grandfather of Nicole, Nicholas Jr. and Janet Gizzi, Mathew and Anthony Artz, Joseph and Michael Valente. Brother of Berio and Rita Gizzi of Boston’s North End. Funeral from the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home 306 Main Street Medford on Wednesday at 8:00 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant Street Malden at 9:00 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the funeral home Tuesday 4-8 pm. Services will conclude with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
