Obituary

George Estaphan, 85, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2012, in UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus. He was born in Worcester, son of Syrian immigrants, Adele (Salmon) and Issac Estaphan. A WWII veteran, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard 1943-1945 in the South Pacific aboard the USS Samuel Chase APA-26 Assault Transport. After the war, he worked as a produce manager in several different supermarkets, retiring at the age of 70. George loved sports and enjoyed watching Holy Cross athletics. He was predeceased by three sisters, Rose Estaphan, Sadie Bayrouty, and Emily Warrington and two brothers, Charles and Mitchell Estaphan. He leaves nephews and nieces.

A calling hour will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Monday, June 11, at 11a.m. A service in the funeral home will follow at 12 Noon. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 256 Hamilton St., Worcester MA 01604.
