Obituary

Olin Hallman Hasty of Brunswick, formerly of Tifton, died Friday, June 8, 2012 at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 11, 2012, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Ronald Hasty, Rev. David Blaylock and Rev. Shelley Hasty Woodruff will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Jack Bailey, Col. Bill Rippy, George Steedley, Cecil Hutchinson, Harold Abbott and Hollis Goode will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Hasty’s Communications. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 10, 2012, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mr. Hasty was born on October 20, 1932 in Tifton and was the son of Olin Huey Hasty and Evelyn Hall Hasty, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one son, Robert James Hasty; and one grandson, Robert Glenn Hasty. He was an electronics engineer and the founder of Hasty's Communications in Tifton. He served in the United States Air Force in the Strategic Air Command and the Atomic Energy Command. He was president of the Tifton Jaycees; served as chairman of the Tift County Airport Commission for several terms, charter member of the National Advisory Council for Motorola; member of the Elks Lodge; member of Springhill Country Club; and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Tifton. He was an avid pilot and loved to fly. He moved to Brunswick in June of 2003, but spent most of his life in Tifton.

Mr. Hasty is survived by his wife, Iva Wagoner Hasty of Brunswick; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Tommy and Jean Hasty of Tifton and Mike Hasty of Saint Simons Island; one brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Ronald and Helen Hasty of North Augusta, South Carolina; one sister, Linda Allen of Monroe; two grandchildren and their spouses, Dr. Christopher Hasty and his wife, Melissa “Missy” Hasty of Tifton and Rev. Shelley Hasty Woodruff and her husband, Dr. John Hiram Woodruff of Decatur; and three great-grandchildren, Carstin Hasty, Jake Hasty and Hannah Glenn Hasty.
