Stephen B. Mello, 40, of New Bedford died Wednesday April 28, 2004 unexpectedly at home. He was the husband of Muriel L. Breton-Mello; they had been married for 12 years.
Born in New Bedford, the son of Florence (Almeida) Mello and Egidio Mello, Jr., of New Bedford, he had lived in New Bedford for all of his life.
He was a member of the International Church of the Nazarene.
Mr. Mello was formerly employed as a machinist at Chamberlain Manufacturing and Morse Cutting Tools. He was also an expert carpenter.
He was a graduate of Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School, where he was a member of the football team. He was a former member of the Verdean Vets Drum & Bugle Corps.
Mr. Mello was a loving and devoted father who loved spending time with his children, and was a loving and caring uncle to all of his nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his wife; his mother; his father and his wife Aleta; two sons, Quintin Mello and Justin Mello, both of New Bedford; three daughters, Megan Mello of New Bedford, and Cheylynn Mello and Stevi Mello, both of Florida; four brothers, Vencelo Mello, Egidio Mello III, and Christopher Mello, all of New Bedford, and Warren Mello of New Jersey; three sisters, Boneta Garrison, Patricia Mello and Deborah Mello, all of New Bedford; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday May 1, 2004 at 9 AM in the International Church of the Nazarene, 284 Pleasant St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Friday 5-8 PM.
