Richard H. Hallahan, III
South Boston- Richard H. Hallahan,III, 70, of South Boston died tragically May 27, 2012 at home in South Boston.
He was born on June 3, 1941 in Elmira, New York, the son of Richard and Mary Hallahan. After attending Virginia Tech, he served in the US Army for 8 years , receiving the Purple Heart for being wounded in battle. After his service , Richard did undergraduate and graduate work at Eastern Nazaene College, SUNY at Binghamton, and Northeastern. During and after his studies he worked as a nurse for the City of Boston, finally completing his nursing career at Marian Manor in his beloved Southie with retirement this past year. He loved what he did and he will forever be remembered as Santa Claus to a couple of generations of children in and around South Boston and southern NH.
Known as Dickie to family members and Richie to his many friends, he was also an avid military historian and collector of war memorabilla as well as being a Civil War reenactee.
Besides his mother, Dickie is survived by his wife Priscilla, and step daughter Susan , three grand children,and six great grand children;his brother Mark and his wife Sheila with their son Bill; his brother Mike and his wife Debra with their children, Richard , James, and Aileen; as well as his sister Mary , an aunt and uncle Joan and Walter along with numerous cousins. Preceded in death by his father Richard and his aunt Marie and dear friend Diane Bourglas.
SERVICES: Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Friday, June 8, 2012 from 4 to 7 PM at Casper Funeral Services, 187 Dorchester St. S. Boston, MA. A time and place for a military burial at a veteran's cemetary will be further announced.
In lieu of flowers,donations in Richard's memory can be made to the charity of one's choice.
