Eugene Hurt, 78, of Fitzgerald, died Monday, June 4, 2012, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, June 7, 2012, at First Assembly of God with Rev. Joey Peterson officiating. Visitation will be held from 7-9 Wednesday at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Hurt was born June 26, 1933 in Moultrie, Georgia to the late Wesley Hoil and Lola Rebecca Hurt. He was a former resident of Portsmouth, Virginia for 20 years and had worked for Colonial Stores during that time. Upon returning to Fitzgerald, Mr. Hurt worked for Dorminy Medical Center and David Sims as a painting contractor and also as an independent painting contractor. He was a Master Painter. Mr. Hurt was a Deacon at the First Assembly of God and a former member of the Georgia National Guard.
He is survived by his wife: Servenure V. Hurt of Fitzgerald; daughters and son-in-law: Deborah Jean and Edmund Quintero of Irwin County and Penny Gilmore of Fitzgerald, sons: Larry D. “Danny” Hurt and Anthony K. “Tony” Hurt, both of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Tracey and Joey Peterson, Kimberly & Curtis Coggins, Larry D. Hurt Jr., Anthony W. Hurt, Niki Fussell, Andy Hurt, Earl Hurt, Ronnie Hurt, Joshua & Jessica Hurt, and Amber & Carlos Cuevas; great-grandchildren: Caleb, Bryson, Preston, Brantley, Koby, Bella, Earl Jr., India, Iziah, Gabby, Jordan and Landon; and one sister: Fannielee Rutherford of Newport News, VA. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, David Lee Kennedy, one brother, one sister and three step-brothers.
