Catherine E. (Marsano) Thoms, age 77 passed away at Hancock Park in Quincy on Sunday June 3, 2012. Catherine was born in Belfast, ME and lived in Montclair, Quincy before moving to Weymouth in 1960. She graduated from North Quincy High School in 1953 and Peter Bent Brigham School of Nursing in 1956 as a Registered Nurse. Catherine worked many years at the South Shore Hospital. She was a Weymouth Town Meeting Member, a Democratic Committee Member in Weymouth and MA, an Environmental Protection Committee member, Past President of the Pond Plain Improvement Association, a member of the Weymouth Mental Health Board and a member of Holy Nativity Church in Weymouth.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert J. Thoms Sr., her children, Mary Thoms of Weymouth, Robert Thoms and his wife Laura of AL, Miriam Thoms of AL and Douglas Thoms and his wife Kyrst of Vancouver, BC, her grandchildren; Justin Golden and his wife Melissa, PFC MacKenzie T. Glazer, Zachary W. Glazer, Robert J. Thoms III and Kimberly A. Thoms and her great granddaughter, Catherine E. Golden. Catherine also leaves brothers and sisters in Belfast, ME, many nieces and nephews and was the sister-in-law of Paul Thoms and his wife Val of W. Bridgewater and Diane Thoms of Weymouth. She is predeceased by her brother-in law Edward M Thoms. Catherine was an avid knitter and enjoyed counted cross stitching.
A Funeral Service will be held at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth on Thursday June 7 at 1 P.M. Visiting Hours will be on Wednesday from 4 to 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Catherine’s memory to the Joslin Diabetes Center, 1 Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.
