Irene A. (Fiano) Beaulieu, 84, of New Bedford, died on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at home, surrounded by her family. Irene was the loving wife of the late Alphonse Beaulieu and the daughter of the late Luigi and Florida (Lagasse) Fiano.
Memere "Boo," as she was affectionately known to her great-granddaughters Michelle and Jillian, was born in Acushnet, on May 25, 1928. She lived most of her life in New Bedford, except for a brief period when she moved to Freetown with her husband and sons.
As a communicant of St. Mary's Parish in New Bedford, Irene was actively involved in many aspects of parish life. She was honored for her dedication to the parish by being awarded the Marian Medal.
Irene's work experience began at the New Bedford Rayon, where she met her husband, to whom she was married for fifty-one years. She worked as head bookkeeper at the former Economy Blouse and retired from the meat department at Fernandes Supermarket.
Survivors include 3 sons, David Beaulieu and his wife Suzanne of New Bedford, Gerald A. Beaulieu and his wife Janice of Jacksonville, Fl, and Steven Beaulieu and his wife Lisa of Marion; 3 sisters, Theresa Desrosiers and Jeanette Cofer, both of Florida and Pauline Fiano of New Bedford; 7 grandchildren, Laurie Barr, Jason Beaulieu, Jennifer Beaulieu, Nicole Fredette, Monique Bowen, Jacob Beaulieu and Noah Beaulieu; and 2 great-grandchildren, Michelle and Jillian.
She was the sister of the late Andre, Normand, Leo, Raymond, Donald, Violet and Juliette Fiano.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 5th at 9 AM in St. Mary's Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted. Arrangements are with the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
