Obituary

John A. Houde, 87 years, of Brockton, died peacefully, June 2, 2012 at his home. John was a lifelong resident of Brockton, son of the late Adrien and Agnes (Kelliher) Houde and brother of the late Anna M. Houde. He graduated from Brockton High School in 1943, went into the Army in July 1943 and went overseas in January 1944 where he joined the First Infantry Division. As a member of the 18th Infantry Regiment he made the D-Day landing at Omaha Easy Red Beach. He was awarded a Combat Infantry Badge, a Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and a Purple Heart. A Presidential Distinguished Unit Badge with arrowhead was awarded to each member of his battalion for accomplishments on the morning of D-Day. He received four battle stars for Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Ardennes. He was also awarded a Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and a Belgian Fourrager. John was employed at the Brockton Post Office for thirty two and one half years and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion.
The funeral procession will gather at Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte123) Brockton, Tuesday at 9:30am, followed by a funeral mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10:30am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. At John’s request, visiting hours are omitted.
