Obituary

PROVINCETOWN — Dolores C. (Lema) Roderick, 78, of Provincetown died Thursday May 31, 2012 after battling cancer for many years. She was the wife of the late Raymond J. Roderick who died in May of 1984.
Born on W. Vine Street in Provincetown on October 2, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (Andrade) Lema. She was a member of the Provincetown High School class of '51. After high school she worked at the Provincetown Inn and at the Chef's Restaurant, currently the Governor Bradford, as a waitress for a few years. For 18 years, from 1978 until 2006 she worked at the A&P, currently Stop & Shop, in the meat department. Dolores was an avid traveler. Her trips took her many places around the world including Asia, Europe, Africa, China and Portugal. She also enjoyed cruises whenever she had the opportunity.
In spite of her illness she led a fulfilling life. She was always grateful for what she had. She was happiest when she was spending time with her 8 children, 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
She was the mother of twin daughters Denise Gill and her husband Michael of Miami and Donna Sullivan and her husband Ken also of Miami. Her sons include John Roderick of Somerville, Keith Roderick and his wife Karen of Provincetown, Raymond and his wife Janice of Truro, Paul of Provincetown, David and his wife Pam of Wakefield and Christopher of Provincetown. Her grandchildren are Brett and Katie Gill and Jacob, Chelsea, Jacqueline, Devin and Carmen Roderick. Her two great-grandchildren are Channing and Jordyn Gill. She was the sister of Ruth White of Provincetown and Frank Lema of Winchendon, MA and the late Palmeida Cabral and Mary Souza. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
She was a devout Catholic who would look to her faith during difficult times. She was a lifetime member of St. Peter the Apostle Church in Provincetown.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Peter the Apostle Church, 11 Prince St., Provincetown on Monday June 4, 2012 at 11 a.m. followed by burial in St. Peter Cemetery. Visiting hours are Sunday from 4-7 p.m. in the Gately McHoul Funeral Home, 94 Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown.
