Obituary

Charles Avedikian of Westport and Dunedin, FL age 86, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, May 29, 2012. Born in Chelsea, MA on September 19, 1925, he lived most of his life in Cherry Valley, MA. Son of the late Avedis and Virginia (Boyaj) Avedikian, Charlie was a retired Professor of Computer Science from Worcester State College. He also was the owner of the Worcester Violin Shop. A graduate of Chelsea High School and UMass Amherst, he earned graduate degrees from Cornell University and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He was an Army veteran, serving during World War II. He was awarded both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals. Some of his many interests included gardening, playing the violin, and spending time with his grandson. Charlie was especially proud of his Armenian heritage.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Anne Marie (Ropert); son Daniel and his wife Colleen of Westport; grandson William Charles of Westport; sisters-in-law Isabel Avedikian of Needham, MA and Francine Jehanno of France; 4 nephews, 4 nieces, and many beloved cousins. He was also the godfather to several children. He was the brother of the late Gregory Avedikian.

Funeral services to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 11am at the Potter Funeral Home.

Visiting hours will be Friday 5 – 8 PM.

A private burial will be held at a later date.
