Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Natalie Adams (Thatcher) White, 83, passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2012 in the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Randall T. White, Sr. who died in November of 2008.
Born in Fitchburg on September 12, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Mark and Esther (Adams) Thatcher. She was a graduate of the Fitchburg High School class of 1946.
Following high school, Natalie was employed by AT&T as a telephone operator. She and “Randy” first met after World War II, when he was working for Western Union. Married on November 15, 1949, they had shared fifty-eight years of marriage.
Over the years, Natalie worked at a number of places while raising their four children. In addition to the telephone company, she worked at Mighty Mac as a receptionist, Addison Gilbert Hospital in the billing department, and the Gloucester Daily Times.
Natalie enjoyed bird watching, gardening, knitting, crocheting, and doing crossword puzzles and cryptoquotes. She also did needlepoint and enjoyed sewing. Weekend visits were fun times spent playing cribbage, Boggle, chicken foot or UNO. A voracious reader, Natalie listed each book in a loose leaf binder so she wouldn’t buy or borrow from the library books she had already read. She was also an avid Red Sox fan. A loving mother, aunt and friend, she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by four children, Susan A. (White) Shofner of Gloucester, Diane C. White of Chelmsford, Jo-Ann M. White of Nashua, NH, and Randall T. White, Jr. of Woodbridge, VA; a niece, Lee (Thatcher) Halloran of Lunenburg and nephew, Scott Thatcher of Ashby. She was also predeceased by her brother and two sisters-in-law, Mark G., Jr. and Lois (White) Thatcher, and Natalie Bartlett.
Her memorial service will be held on Thursday morning in the Gloucester United Methodist Church, 436 Washington Street, Gloucester at 11 a.m. Visiting house will be held on Wednesday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 5 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Sawyer Free Library, 2 Dale Avenue, Gloucester, MA, Seacoast Resident Activity Fund, 292 Washington Street, Gloucester, MA 01930, or the Massachusetts Audubon Society, 208 South Great Rd., Lincoln, MA 01773 (www.massaudubon.org). Interment will be held privately in the Wesleyan Cemetery.
