Obituary

George “Wayne” Hill, Sr., 70, of Eldorado died Sunday, May 27, 2012, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Denise Percival and Rev. Ronnie Lawson will officiate with a eulogy to be given by Brian Atwater. Burial will follow in Union Grove Church of God Cemetery in Eldorado. Patrick Atwater, Jerry Hill, Shane Hill, Gerald Goodman, Steve Roberts, Tommy Whitley, Justin Weeks, Brian Atwater, Shannon Hornbuckle and John David Taylor, Jr. will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Burnett, Willie Moore, Randall Moore, Buster Mercer, Timmy Dominque, Harrison Brown, Tom Sprouse, Wayne Mullis, J. W. Baker and Wendell “Crow” Greene. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The family will be at the Hill home at 160 Atwater Road in Eldorado.

Mr. Hill was born on April 23, 1942 and was the son of George Thurston Hill, who died in 1990, and Rosa Pitts Hill, who died in 1995. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Eugene Hill, who died in 1978, and Melvin Hill, who died in 2010; and two nephews, Walter Hill and Michael Hill. He was born and raised in Eldorado and was a farmer. He attended Vickers Church in Berrien County. He loved his grandchildren, fishing, tobacco farming and his livestock.

Mr. Hill is survived by his wife, Sharon Conger Hill, who he married on March 14, 1964; one daughter, Sharon Rose “Shari” Horne and her two daughters, Nicole Hornbuckle and her husband Shannon Hornbuckle, and Brittney Greene; one son and daughter-in-law, George Wayne “Waye” and Shannon Brady Hill and his daughters, Rachel Hill and Chelsi Hill; one sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Pat Atwater; one brother and sister-in-law, Lindsey and Connie Hill; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law; Charlotte McMillan, Joyce and Jesse Weeks and Donna and David Taylor; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to Dr. Paul Murray, Dr. Lorraine Sumner, Dr. Kathrine Gibbons, Kay Willingham, the staff of Tift Regional Medical Center Cardiac Rehabilitation, Tift Regional Medical Center Physical Therapy, Amedises Home Health Care and Southern Care Hospice of Moultrie.
