Obituary

Raymond F. Armstrong, Sr., 88, of Dartmouth, died peacefully at home Tuesday, May 22, 2012. He was the husband of the late Agnes H. (Hromadka) Armstrong.
Born in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John and Mary Armstrong, and the brother of the late “Jack” Armstrong. Ray lived in Northbrook, Illinois before moving to Dartmouth twelve years ago.
After graduating high school, Mr. Armstrong was accepted to the U.S. Navy officer training program that took him through Dartmouth College, Harvard University, and Holy Cross where he graduated with a B.S. in Naval Sciences. Ray served in the Navy and was stationed at Pearl Harbor at the end of World War II. Upon completing his military duty, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Indiana University.
Ray started his own industrial sales agency, Armstrong Associates, in 1961, selling technical components to original equipment manufacturers in Illinois and Wisconsin. He was a member of the Manufacturers Agents National Association. He was hired as a National Marketing Manager by Kiwi Coders Corp. in 1984 where he remained until his retirement in 1986.
He was an avid traveler and visited much of the world through the years with his wife, Agnes. His travels took him to every continent with the exception of Antarctica.
After moving to Dartmouth in 2000, Ray became a docent at the Whaling Museum, making the most of his love of history and experience in naval sciences.
In addition to his love of travel, Ray greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and talking politics and current events.
Survivors include his loving son, Raymond F. Armstrong and his wife Maureen Sylvia Armstrong of Dartmouth, as well as his beloved grandsons, Andrew and Charlie.
A private military burial will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on Thursday, May 31st. There are no visiting hours.
