Leona Agnes Buzek Tobias,of Columbus, passed away at her home on May 22, 2012 at the age of 85. She was born to Joe Buzek and Cecilia Shimek Buzek on June 3, 1926, at Columbus, Texas.
Leona loved fishing, playing bingo and going to Louisiana to gamble. She loved cooking and baking until the last few years when her daughters and granddaughter took over cooking for family gatherings. Her age and strength caused her to give up driving, but she was blessed by being able to live by herself. Her living at home was possible by help from her family as well as her special helper, Anna Chovanec.
Leona was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Altar Society of Ellinger.
Special thanks to Father Stephen Nesrsta and Deacon Robert Jasek for visiting her at home regularly and bringing her communion.
Leona is survived by her oldest daughter, Joann Tobias of Houston; her younger daughter, Cecilia Tobias Smidovec and son-in-law Robert Smidovec of Columbus; her grandchildren, Russell Smidovec of Pleasanton and Jennifer Smidovec Chester and husband Alan of Columbus.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, in 1983.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday May 24, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church near Ellinger, beginning at 6:30 PM, after the 6:00 PM mass. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 PM, at the church.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday May 25, 2012, at 10:00 AM, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church near Ellinger. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or St. Mary’s Altar Society.
