Obituary

Joseph I. Gallant, 92, of Derry, NH died Sunday May 20, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Gallant was born in New Brunswick, Canada on January 10, 1920, a son of the late Manuel and Suzanne (Richard) Gallant. He was a resident of Derry since 1971 formerly living in Lawrence, MA. For 17 years Joseph was employed by Crown Cork & Seal as a line mechanic, retiring in 1987. He also worked part time for Shaws Supermarkets of Derry and Londonderry for 13 years. He was a member of the L’Assumption Association for more than 40 years and a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Derry. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening and his cat, Corona. Joseph’s family wishes to give special thanks to the In Home Services & Hospice of Manchester for their care.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Maria S. (Goguen) Gallant of Derry, two sons, Joseph Jean Claude Gallant and his wife Maxine of Merrimack, NH, Joseph Serge Gallant and his wife Brenda of Derry, two daughters, Gilberte Frechette and her husband Dennis of Conway, NH, Eva M. Love and her husband Dennis of N. Conway, NH, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Lorraine LeBlanc of British Columbia, Canada, Therese Arsenault, Lillian Gallant and one brother, Albert Gallant, all of New Brunswick, Canada, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours were held Wednesday May 23, 2012 from 5 to 8 pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday at 1:00 pm in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave, Derry with cremation that followed. Donations in his memory may be made to the Dana-Farber/NH Oncology-Hematology, 40 Buttrick Rd., Londonderry, NH 03053.
