Obituary

Worcester - Antonios Romniou, 83, died Friday, May 18, 2012. His wife of 54 years, Theodora (Kapsokoulou) Romniou, died in 2005. He leaves 3 sons, Michael, George, and Nicholas and his wife Dimitra and 2 grandsons, Antonios and George; and nieces and nephews in Greece. He was born in Samos, Greece, the youngest of five children to Maria (Hatzioanou) and Mihalis Romniou. He was a leather craftsman and crafted fine, custom-fitted shoes - among them the wedding shoes worn by Princess Anne Marie, Princess of Denmark, when she wed King Constantine of Greece and those of Princess Sophia of Greece when she wed Prince Juan Carlos of Spain. In the 1970's, Antonios immigrated to the United States and settled in Worcester where he worked for H.H. Brown Shoe Co. and later for Table Talk. He was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 21, from 5-8pm at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street. A Trisagion Service will be held during calling hours. The funeral will be held Tuesday, May 22, from Nordgren Memorial Chapel with an 11am service in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. The Mercy Meal will be held following the burial at Zorba's, 97 Stafford Street, Worcester.
