Leo E. Lamy, 88, a life-long resident of Manchester NH, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning at the home of his son, Gary, in Chester NH. He was born July 10, 1923, in Manchester one of eleven children to Ovila and Marie-Ledianne (Gariepy) Lamy. He grew up on the West Side and attended Ste. Marie School and West High School. In 1943, he entered the U. S. Army and served 23 months overseas with the 2237th Quartermaster Truck Company, 15th Army Air Forces, Fogia, Italy.
Upon returning from the war, he was employed as a foreman at Bee Bee Shoe Company. After that company closed he worked for J.F. McElwain until their closure and then finished his working life at Gold-Bond Products prior to his retirement in 1988.
Leo was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish, Catholic War Veterans, Knights of Columbus, and the Boy Scouts of America. Leo’s real passion was in helping and volunteering time to youth organizations, principally, the Sacred Heart Parish Catholic Youth Organization and over 45 years with Pack 135 Cub Scout and Troop 135 Boy Scout organizations. He also enjoyed a large variety of hobbies and past times throughout his life; especially, TV & radio repair, wood working and crafts, home repairs, taking the family camping and on epic vacation trips, and collecting Boy Scout Handbooks and Memorabilia. He had a green-thumb in the vegetable garden and hated when the squirrels ate his cucumbers. Leo was a kind, gentle, and patient man who rarely had a criticism for anyone. He spent the last five years of his life in comfort and peace with his son and family at their Chester home.
Leo Lamy was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Desneiges T. (Benoit) of North Troy, Vermont in 2007.
Family members include three children; son Perry Lamy and his wife Peggy of Fairview, TX with their boys, Alex and Nicholas, and granddaughter Eleanor; son Gary Lamy and his wife Lee Ann of Chester with their children Christopher and Michelle; and, daughter Robin Lamy of Bethel AK. Also, Leo’s brother Raymond Lamy of Manchester and three sisters, Irene Laverdiere of Portsmouth, Claire Browning of Hooksett, and Therese Doucet of Rochester. He was also predeceased by a granddaughter Christine Lamy, three brothers Armand, Roger, Laurent Lamy and three sisters Yvette Hebert, Sister Lucienne Lamy, and Laurette Pelchat.
A funeral mass was celebrated on Monday, May 21, 2012 in Ste Marie Church, 378 Notre Dame Avenue, and then be reunited with his wife at Mt Calvary Mausoleum.
