Augustine P. Turnbull, Jr., 88

Augustine P. “Gus” Turnbull, Jr., 88, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the Epoch Senior Healthcare in Norton. He was the beloved husband of Eleanor G. (McGrath) Turnbull, to whom he was wed on April 3, 1970.
Born in Boston, MA on January 20, 1924, he was a son of the late Augustine P., Sr. and Mary L. (Sullivan) Turnbull.
Gus grew up in the Dorchester section of Boston and was a graduate of B.C. High School. He furthered his education and was a graduate of Boston College Law School.
A retied Social Worker, Mr. Turnbull had worked for the State of MA/Social Services for the elderly on the South Shore, for 10 years prior to retiring. Following retirement he worked part time helping others as a councilor at several area Courts.
Gus had resided in Mansfield for the past 38 years and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield. He was a former longtime resident of Jamaica Plain.
An avid reader, he enjoyed walking and traveling and being in the presence of his loving family, especially his grandchildren. He was a former member and past president of the Live Y’ers Group at the Hockomock YMCA in North Attleboro, and was a former member of the Mansfield Democratic Town Committee.
In addition to his beloved wife of over 42 years, he is survived by his devoted children; Brian Turnbull and his wife Virginia of Bedford, Bruce Turnbull and his wife Linda of Lakeville, Paul Turnbull of Boston , Vincent Turnbull and his wife Virginia of CT, Philip Turnbull and his wife Lisa of CA, Martin Turnbull and his wife Paula of Westford, Susan Cohen and her husband Mark of Framingham and Aileen Turnbull and her husband Michael Reardon of Mansfield. He is also survived by his 13 cherished grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 22nd at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visitation will be held prior to the Funeral Mass Tuesday morning beginning at 9:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Turnbull’s memory may be made to the Live Y’ers Group at the Hockomock Area YMCA, 300 Elmwood St., North Attleboro, MA 02760.
