Obituary

George Gilbert Lavigueur III, "Gil", 54, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Norwich Sunday morning, May 13, 2012.

George was born on Sept. 27, 1957. As a native Noanker, he was proud of his upbringing there and equally proud of his Maine heritage, having spent a great deal of his life there with his family. He was the beloved son of Helene (Gagne) Lavigueur and the late François I. Lavigueur of Groton.

A graduate of Robert E. Fitch High School, class of 1975, he earned a bachelor degree in marine biology from Southern Connecticut State College. He later enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for six years.

All who knew him would agree he was a generous and loving man. He could always make you laugh or shake your head when he'd offer anecdotes and little known facts. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. He loved golf, riding his motorcycle, reading his books and listening to his music, but more than anything, he loved his family. We pray that George is now at peace and in the arms of his father and the others who passed before him.

As well as his mother, George is survived by his siblings, Francois Jr. and his wife, Kimberly, of Groton, Stacey and her husband, Arthur, of Boquete, Panama, Stephan and his wife, Joanne, of East Granby, and Antoine and his wife, Kathy, of Newport, R.I. He was also the much loved uncle of ten nieces and nephews, Francois III, Avery, Nathan, Helene, Benjamin, Robin, Heidi, Beatrix, William and Luc; he was also a great-uncle to Brynn and Bixby.

A private family service will be held in Brunswick, Maine.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Mystic Aquarium, 55 Coogan Boulevard, Stonington, CT 06378.
