Vincent J. Giovenelli, of Stoneham and formerly of Medford, died at home Saturday in the company of his loving family. He was 75.
Mr. Giovenelli was raised in Medford the son of the late Vincenzo and Concetta Giovenelli. A graduate of Medford High School, Vincent later went on to earn an Associates Degree in Criminology at Bunker Hill Community College. Vinny served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Upon his return from the military, he was appointed to the Medford Police Department, where he served for 31 years. During his years on the police department he was an organizing member of the Medford Patrolman’s Association. He was honored by the West Medford Community Center for his work in the community. A hard worker throughout his life, Vinny led the efforts to restore Wright’s Pond in Medford and was active there during his retirement. For his efforts and for his leadership as a supervisor, Vinny was honored by having one of the facilities at the Pond named in his honor. Above all his accomplishments in life, nothing pleased him more than the special relationship, which developed between him and his grandchildren.
The beloved husband of Martha (Chines), he was a devoted father to Vincent J. Giovenelli and his wife Missy of North Andover, Santo Giovenelli of South Dartmouth, Karen Giovenelli-McCoy and her husband Patrick of Wakefield. He was a loving grandfather to Vincent, Anthony, Stephanie, Toni, Matthew, Malkolm, Emma and was the brother of the late Connie Hrono.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with the family at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Thursday evening from 4 – 8 and again on Friday morning, May 18th at 9 AM for the procession to St. Patrick Church, 71 Central Street, Stoneham, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 AM. Services will conclude with Military and Police Honors at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
