Jessie Mae Rowell, 89, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Saturday, May 12, 2012, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 4 P.M., Monday, May 14 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Ocilla with Rev. Edsel Young and Rev. Larry Bowen officiating. Interment will follow in the New Hope Cemetery, Ambrose. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Sunday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Rowell was born September 11, 1922 in Coffee County, Georgia to the late William Henry & Samantha Elizabeth Grantham Goff. She lived most of her life in Irwin County and was a homemaker. She loved her family and enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, and crocheting. She was of the Holiness faith.
She is survived by her seven girls and their spouses: Vera Mae & Herman Smith of Alma, Mattie Young of Wray, Lene Rowell of Douglas, Lizzy & Carroll Young of Wray, Jessie Lee & Hershell Jones of Douglas, Peggy & Larry Bess of Ocilla, and Deborah & Jack Conner of Abbeville; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Her special companions also survive: Tiny & Crockett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Waldo Rowell; a daughter: Melba Grace Rowell; a son-in-law: Clinton Young; two sisters: Lillie Rowell and Lucy Chaney; and an infant brother.
