Obituary

Abington – William Joseph "Bill" Fennell age 77 of Abington, MA went peacefully home to God, Thursday May 10th.

Bill was born on March 8, 1935 in County Cork, Ireland. He later moved to Dublin where he spent his childhood. In 1957 Bill came to the United States on the Mauratania. He served in the United States Army National Guard. He met the love of his life R. Anne (McGeough) and they enjoyed 52 loving years of marriage. Bill was a loving husband, brother, father and grandfather.

Bill was a Golden Member of the Pioneer Total Abstinence Society of the Sacred Heart. A fine patron of the Hudson Bus line, Bill commuted to Commercial Union Insurance Company where he worked for several years. He was actively involved in the St. Francis Xavier Drum and Bugle Corps and a member of St. Bridget Church, Abington.

Bill enjoyed many hobbies including cycling, baking scones, making jams, collecting stamps, picking berries and gardening. He was an avid fan of Gaelic futbol, hurling, soccer, and rugby. Throughout his life he liked traveling the world and meeting people of all nationalities. He enjoyed tea and biscuits with family and friends. Bill never knew a stranger and always helped those in need.

Bill is preceded in death by his infant son James Joseph. He is survived by his loving wife, “Anneo”, and nine children, William P. and wife Barbara, Barry J. and wife Kathleen, Siobhán Zuccaro and husband Michael, Timothy J. and wife Helena, Terence M. and wife Vanessa, Matthew F. and wife Aimee, Kieran M. and sweetheart Megan, Brendan P. and wife Karinne, Declan E. and wife Corinne and his 23 beautiful grandchildren and many relatives in Ireland.

Family and friends are invited to attend his services to be held Wednesday May 16 at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9 AM in St. Bridget Church, Abington. Burial will follow in the St. Patrick Cemetery, Rockland. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday May 15 from 4-8 PM.
