Obituary

Carl Wilkerson, age 74, a well-loved and humble man who enjoyed greeting people outside the Post Office at Natick Common each morning for many years, died suddenly at his Wellesley home on Monday, May 7, 2012. He was the devoted husband of the late Doris Louise Parks Wilkerson.

Born in Jersey City, NJ, on December 19, 1937, he was a son of the late Carl and Louise (Comer) Wilkerson. He served four years with the Air Force at the end of Korean War and had been employed as an assembler with the Electronic Corp of America.

Carl married Doris in 1964 and lived many years in Boston and on the North Shore prior to settling in Wellesley in 1979. They became Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1969 and were devoted to their faith, Carl serving as an Elder at the Kingdom Hall in Ashland. He spent the better part of his days impeccably dressed and sporting a hat outside the Post Office, spreading his kindness and the Word of Jehovah to all who passed by.

Predeceased by Doris in 2004, he is survived by his loving stepson, Alvan S. Walcott, Jr. and wife Natalie of Ashland; a dear sister, Vermay H. Taylor and husband George of Matteson, IL; a brother, Herbert Wilkerson and wife Leatrice of Calumet City, IL; and three grandchildren.

His memorial service will be at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, 71 Union Street, Ashland, on Saturday, May 12th at 2:00p.m.
