GLOCUESTER: Miriam E. Johnson, 89, died Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She had resided at Millbrook Park in Rockport from 1987 to 2004.
Born in Lanesville on November 10, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Gustaf and Helmi (Jarvenpaa) Johnson. She was a graduate of the Gloucester High School class of 1941.
Miriam was employed by Gorton’s of Gloucester for almost 21 years. She was a lifelong member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and a former member of the Lutheran Church Women. Miriam’s interests were reading, genealogy and the Red Sox.
She is survived by three nephews, Robert Brayman and his wife, Gail of Kennebunk, ME, William Niemi and his wife, Diane of Gloucester and Ronald Johnson and his wife, Gail of Booth Bay Harbor, ME; three nieces, Phyllis White and her husband, Jim of Essex, Linda Tucker and her husband, Troy of Port Charlotte, FL and Ruthann Collinson of Gloucester; goddaughter, Michele Garnett of Hampden, ME and several grandnieces and grandnephews. She was also predeceased by her brothers, John and Edward Johnson; three sisters, Lillian Niemi, Ellen Brayman and Elsie Flasher.
Funeral services will be held privately in the Seaside Cemetery, Lanesville. There are no visiting hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester.
