Melvin Giddens, 74, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, May 6, 2012, at the Fitzgerald Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 8, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Dr. Mike Ruffin officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Giddens was born March 18, 1938 in Ben Hill County to the late Clinton and Mabel Turner Giddens. He lived in Fitzgerald most of his life and was a former resident of Houston, Texas. Mr. Giddens was a cowboy and a horse trainer. He attended the First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his children: Chuck & Jamie Giddens of Covington and Karen Giddens Jackson of the Lands Crossing Community; special friend: Norma Prince of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Rebecca Gutierrez, Dannella Elliott, Trevor Giddens, Maddison Giddens, McKenzie Giddens and Connor Giddens; brother: Harold (Rosetta) Giddens of Fitzgerald; sister: Brenda Joyce ( Frank) Clements of Fitzgerald; sisters-in-law: Joyce Giddens of Fitzgerald and Marie Giddens of Jacksonville, FL as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Giddens and Alvin Giddens.
