SALEM - Anthony Pecevich, 85, of Arroyo Grande, CA, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at the Arroyo Grande Community Hospital. He was the husband of Jennie (Ponas) Pecevich.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Pecevich) Pecevich. He was a graduate of Salem High School in 1943 and joined the Navy. He served during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. In 1945, he was released from active duty and transferred to the Navy Reserve. He graduated from Boston University and in 1950, was called back to active duty for the Korean Conflict. He retired at the end of 1952 as a Lieutenant having served as an officer on minesweepers and landing craft during his career.
Mr. Pecevich was employed by Ratheon for 30 years, working in Newton, MA, Lewiston, ME and then in Silicon Valley where he retired. He was a resident of Arroyo Grande, CA since 1989.
Besides his wife, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage, he is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Cole, D.V.M. and her husband Edward Barne of Bend OR, Lydia Yetter and her husband David Martz of San Diego, CA, one son, Carl and his wife Belinda Pecevich of Newbury Park, CA, one granddaughter, Stephanie Yetter of Newbury Park, CA, one sister, Claudia and her husband Bill Safchuk of Peabody and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Walter Pecevich, John Pecevich, and Helene Bamford.
His funeral service will be held Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 11 am at the St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, Forrester St., Salem, with his nephew, V. Rev. Gregory Safchuk, Rector of St. Mark Orthodox Church, of Bethesda, MD, presiding. Visiting hours are Friday, May 11, from 4 to 7 pm at the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited.
