Obituary

Methuen, Ma. – Walter L. Kern, 89, of Methuen, died Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill.

Walter was born in Lawrence on July 18, 1918 the son of Walter S. and Irene (Benjaman) Kern. He attended Lawrence schools and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked as a laborer for the Andrew Wilson Company in Lawrence for twenty five years. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling in the Veterans’ League. He was an avid wrestling and Red Sox fan.

He was the widower of Doris (Pontbriand) Kern.

Walter is survived by two daughters, Donna Kozdra of Methuen and Darlene Demers of Moultonborough, NH; a son, Paul Kern, of Dracut; a sister, Marilyn Eftim, of Florida; a brother, Vincent Kern, of Burlington, MA; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

At the request of the family, all services will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc., 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
