Obituary

Francis A. Hunkins, Jr., 68, passed away on April 26, 2012 with his wife & family by his side after a long battle with cancer.

Frank was born in Chelsea, MA on January 15, 1944, son of the late Francis A. Hunkins, Sr. and late Catherine E. (Stanton) Hunkins.

He attended several schools in Manchester and Santa Ana College in California. He served as a Machinist Mate aboard the carrier USS Hancock during the Vietnam War.

Frank worked for the County of Orange in California as an Operating Engineer at the central utility plant for 8 yrs as well as for the U.S. Forestry & California Forestry as a firefighter. He also worked at the NH State House, the NH Governors’ office for many years, and as a driver for Concord Area Transit driving the city, senior and handicap buses.

He enjoyed every aspect of motorcycle riding, especially motocross & desert racing with the introduction of the sport in the early 70’s. He had an interest in this life of everything and anything.

He leaves his devoted and loving wife of 33 years, Janet L. (Therrien) Hunkins of Manchester. The family also includes a sister Marie Porter, four brothers James, Thomas, Anthony, Gerard all of California, an uncle Ralph McCarthy, many nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Bradley Hunkins.

He was a wonderful kind-hearted man and had a great sense of humor. He will long be remembered for his love of his wife and everyone who knew him.

A memorial service was held on Friday, May 4, 2012 in the chapel at Brookside Congregational Church, 2013 Elm St, Manchester. Burial with military honors followed in St. Augustin Cemetery.
