FAIRHAVEN — Ruth E. (Brightman) Rebello, of Fairhaven, age 89 years, died Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Our Lady's Haven after a short illness. She was the wife of the late Manuel O. Rebello and daughter of the late James D. and Lillian M. (Davoll) Brightman.
Ruth was born in New Bedford and graduated from New Bedford High School and moved to Fairhaven more than 50 years ago. For many years she was employed at Comm Electric.
Ruth was very active in her church in various capacities, a member of the D.A.R., the Fairhaven Improvement Association and the Colonial Club. She was an avid reader.
In the course of her life, Ruth was a loving and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, Nana, aunt and friend.
She leaves three daughters and sons-in-law Christine R. Paiva and her husband Bradford of East Freetown, Leslie D. Hatton and her husband David of Natick, and Deborah J. Tomascik and her husband Ernie of Fairhaven, a sister Lillian M. "Bunny" Entwistle of Pembroke, N.H., two grandchildren Karen L. Facchiano and her husband John of Assonet, Evan J. Tomascik of Fairhaven, six step grandchildren, two nieces Diane R. Johnston of Pembroke, N.H. and Jane M. Brightman of East Freetown and a nephew Jeffrey P. Entwistle of Green Bay, WI, and five great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her husband, Ruth was predeceased by her brother, James D. Brightman Jr. and two sisters Helen E. Key and Eunice M. Peterson and step-son Ronald M. Rebello.
Calling hours at the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford, on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. Her funeral will take place on Wednesday at May 2, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the First Congregational Church, 34 Center St., Fairhaven, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated. Her family will hold a private graveside service at River-side Cemetery at a later date. Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
