Kane, of Brockton, February 21, 2002, Robert A. Kane, 74 years. Beloved husband of Maura J. (Kelleher) Kane and loving father of Sean Kane and his wife Jeanine of N. Easton. Proud grandfather of Brigid and Fiona Kane. Devoted brother of Kenneth F. Kane of N. Easton and Marilyn K. Buckley of Bridgewater.

Funeral from the J. Frank Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street, (Rte 123) Brockton, Tuesday at 8am. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting Hours Sunday 7-9pm and Monday 2-4 and 7-9pm.

Obituary Information

Mr. Kane died Friday evening, February 21, 2002, in the Boston Medical Center, after a lengthy illness. Born in Brockton, he was the son of the late Timothy and Irene (Shea) Kane; he had been a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of Brockton High School, Class of 1945, and was an Inductee in the Brockton High School Sports Hall of Fame in 1997. He continued his education at the Bentley School of Accounting, and became a Staff Accountant at the Brockton Edison from 1948-1991. Mr. Kane was a City Councilor for Ward 1 from 1970-1975. He was Chairman and founder of the Brockton Historical Commission, and a Charter member of the Brockton Historical Society 1969 to present. He was known for his research of Brockton History, Trustee of the Brockton Public Library from 1975-1993, Past Grand Knight, Seville Council of the Knights of Columbus, Past Faithful Navigator, Cardinal O’Connell 4th Degree, member of Society of American Baseball Research, and he was an author of several books relating to genealogy and history, as well as other topics.

He had been a lifelong member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. He and his sister Marilyn conducted frequent group trips to Ireland for the past 10 years. He enjoyed sports, research and family genealogy.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Maura J. (Kelleher) Kane, a son Sean Kane of N. Easton, 2 granddaughters, a brother Kenneth F. Kane of N. Easton and a sister Marilyn K. Buckley of Bridgewater. Many nieces, nephews and cousinsHe was the brother of the late Franklin E. “Leetie” and William D. Kane
