Dr. Robert Potter Rowe, 89, of Masons Island, Mystic, Connecticut, passed away Thursday, April 26th. He was born on October 1st, 1922, in Englewood, New Jersey, the son of Harold Rowe and Katherine Potter Rowe.
In his third year of college he was drafted into the Army Medical Corps, during which time he met and married his wife Adeline Ignatuk. After World War II, he continued education at Princeton University, graduating, in 1948 with his original class, the class of 1944.
Because daily classes could not officially start until the school bell was rung, Bob and his roommate climbed the school tower and removed the bell clapper. Today he still has half of the bell clapper mounted on a plaque in his home.
After Princeton, Bob and his family moved to Yale University where he completed his PHD in pharmacology. In New Haven, together with three young sons, they lived in one half of a Quonset hut, as did many returning veterans on campus. His primary occupation was Pharmaceutical research for drug companies, including Pfizer and Sandoz.
Bob was an avid ham radio operator, NR1Y, with the Tricity Radio Club, a member of Masons Island Yacht Club, and volunteered at the Mystic Seaport Museum where he was part of their pilot program.
He is survived by his wife, Adeline, sister, Mary Waldo of Orlando Florida; sons Roger, Dick, Fred; and daughter Betsy. He has 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Mystic Congregational Church on Saturday, April 28th at 11:00am.
