Lorette C. Viens, 85, of New Bedford died Tuesday April 17, 2012 at Sacred Heart Home.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Ernest W. and Laura E. (Robert) Viens, she lived in New Bedford for all of her life.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church.
Miss Viens was formerly employed as the principal clerk for the New Bedford Health Department for 56 years until her retirement in 2003. She had also worked at the VF Factory Outlet for 38 years as a customer service associate until her retirement in January 2012.
She was a graduate of St. Anne's Grammar School and Holy Family High School, Class of 1945. She had also taken courses in Sociology, Psychology, and Art at UMass Dartmouth.
She was a volunteer nurse's aide for 25 years for the American Red Cross at the Brockton V.A. Hospital. She had been a volunteer for the St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary for 50 years and worked in the gift shop. She was a member of the Catholic Women's Club.
Survivors include her brother-in-law, Deacon Marcel G. Morency; a niece, Denise Morency Gannon and her husband Patrick; a nephew, Paul T. Morency and his wife Holly; her late nephew's wife, Mary Mello Morency; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was the sister of the late Muriel Morency and the aunt of the late Robert Morency and Marc E. Morency.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
