Worcester- Adele M. Zukas, 85, formerly of Jefferson St., died Friday, Apr. 16, in St. Vincent Hospital.
She leaves two sisters, Anne R. St. Martin and Catherine M. “Kitty” Grinke, of Worcester; 4 nieces; several grandnephews and grandnieces. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Frank J. and Catherine M. (Jurusevicius) Zukas and lived here most of her life. She graduated from Commerce High School, St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing, and St. Vincent Hospital School of Anesthesia.
Miss Zukas was a School nurse for the City of Worcester for 32 years. She worked at St. Casimir School, St. Mary’s School, Ascension School, and other area schools, retiring in 1984.
She was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving as a nurse anesthetist. She was a Captain, serving in the China Burma India Theater. From 1944 to 1947, she served in Australia.
Miss Zukas was a member of St. Casimir Parish, and sang in its choir for many years. She was also a member of the Lithuanian Roman Catholic Womens Alliance.
The funeral will be held Monday, Apr. 19, from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Casimir Church, 41 Providence St. Burial will be private in Notre Dame Cemetery. Visitation is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Apr. 19, in the funeral home.
