Obituary

CHICOPEE – Richard E. Therrien, 86, of the Willimansett section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, April 15, 2012. He was born in Holyoke on June 26, 1925, a beloved son of the late Louis and Clara (Berneche) Therrien. He was raised in Holyoke, graduated from the former Immaculate Conception Elementary School and the former Rosary High School and lived in the city until moving to the Willimansett section of Chicopee in 1950. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was the co-owner of the Midway and Center Pharmacies and also the owner of R. E. Therrien Electric, all in Chicopee. He was a communicant of the former Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicopee. He leaves: his beloved wife of nearly 62 years, Claire T. (Guertin) Therrien; his loving children, Darryl A. Therrien and his late wife, Olga Diaz Therrien, and Lise A. Gill and her husband, David, all of Chicopee, Joie C. Pavelcsyk and her husband, John, of Feeding Hills, and Adele M. Provost and her husband, Larry, of Chicopee; his 16 cherished grandchildren; his 17 cherished great-grandchildren; his brother, Henry Therrien, of Florida; his nephews and nieces; and his former daughter-in-law, Denise Therrien, of Chicopee. His funeral will be held on Saturday morning, April 21, 2012, beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (funeral home will open at 7:45 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial with Military Honors will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, April 20, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
