Obituary

Shirley Ann Watson Averitt, 68, of Alapaha died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2012, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Terrell Roberts will officiate with burial to follow in Turner Church Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Berrien County. Jamie Losse, Land Pittman, Josh Averitt, Richie Selph, Wayne Cosper, Kenny Cosper and Chris Sikes will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday, April 19, 2012, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mrs. Averitt was born on September 8, 1943 n Tift County and was the daughter of Roy Chester Watson and Marie Dillard Watson, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Sherrie Selph; two brothers; and one sister. She was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith. She loved flowers and working in her yard. She worked at Manaugh’s nursery for 25 years.

Mrs. Averitt is survived by her husband, Robert Averitt of Tifton; two sons, Richie Selph of Alapaha and Jeffrey Selph of Panama City, Florida; one step-son, Josh Averitt of Tifton; two daughters, Tina Bales and Kathy Selph, both of Valdosta; one brother, Dale Watson of Ocilla; four sisters, Ernestine Cosper of Tifton, Dwinnon Sikes of Alapaha, Sue Mitchell of Irwinville and Vicky Tucker of Pace, Florida; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
