Obituary

Eleanor G. Harkins, 92, of Manchester, died April 16, 2012 after a period of declining health.

Born in Westborough, MA March 10, 1920, she was the daughter of Charles and Eva (Dudley) Morrill. She had been a Manchester resident most of her life.

Eleanor served in the US Navy WAVES during World War II.

She attended Hunter College.

She worked as a lab technician for several years and later worked many years for Jordan Marsh Co. as a clothing buyer.

She was a 35-year member of the Manchester Women’s Club; a member of the Elliot Hospital Senior Associates and a longtime member of the Manchester and Derryfield Garden Clubs. She was also a member of the 9-Hole League at the Manchester Country Club and was a volunteer for the Visiting Nurse Association.

Eleanor was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, James J. Harkins who died in 2009.

She leaves three children, Jay Harkins, Jr. of Manchester, Jean Marie Saunders of Manchester and Ellen Whittemore of Plum Island, MA; five grandchildren, Morrill Whittemore, Casey and Jared Saunders, Bailee and Sam Harkins.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Friday, April 20, 2012 at St. Catherine Church. Urn burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Marlborough, MA at a later date.
