Obituary

CHICOPEE – Clement G. “Clem” Allard, 79, of the Fairview section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Sunday, April 15, 2012. He passed into Eternal Life from his home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and his wonderful caregivers from Mercy Hospice and the Hampden County Physicians Group. He was born in Magog, Province of Quebec, Canada on September 14, 1932, a beloved son of the late Albini and Lina (Boudreau) Allard. He was raised in Magog until the age of two when his parents moved to Rhode Island. He lived in Rhode Island until enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1951. He served his country for 20 years in the United States Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant and retired in 1971 from Westover Air Force Base. He received the National Defense Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Longevity Service Award with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Small Arms Expert Marksman Ribbon and the Air Force Commendation Medal. During his tour of duty in the Air Force, he was stationed at Pepperrell Air Force Base in Saint John’s, Newfoundland, Canada where he met and married his beloved wife and best friend, Helena M. “Lena” (Corcoran) Allard. They were married at Saint John the Baptist Church on December 20, 1954 in Saint John’s, Newfoundland, Canada and together they enjoyed over 57 years of happiness together. Upon his discharge from the United States Air Force at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee in 1971, they purchased their home in the Fairview section of the city where he lived for the remainder of his life. He graduated from the Commercial Trade Institute in Chicago, Illinois on February 29, 1972 and received a certificate in refrigeration, air conditioning and heating. He then established Clem Allard’s Appliance Repair in Chicopee, which he owned and operated for many years. Active in his faith, he was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee where he served his parish as a longtime Eucharistic Minister. He was a member and longtime bingo volunteer of the Fairview Council 4044 Knights of Columbus in Chicopee and a Fourth Degree member of the Fairview Assembly 2670 of the Knights of Columbus. He was a loving man who adored his family and showered them with his love and affection which was returned to him a thousand fold. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his dear brother, Richard Allard. Besides his wife, he leave: his loving children, Paul M. Allard, Peggy A. Breault and Sandra J. Clayton, all of Chicopee; his five cherished grandchildren whom he adored, Cassandra Allard of Agawam, Cayla Allard of Chicopee, Sara Breault Rege and her husband, Ryan, of Belchertown, who were just married on April 14, 2012, Tyler Breault of Houston, TX and Nathaniel Clayton of Chicopee; his cherished great-grandson whom he also adored, William Ducharme; his dear sisters, Rita Reinhardt of Rhode Island, Noella Salas and her husband, Edward, of Florida and Claire Martin of Maine; his dear sister-in-law, Jeanne Allard of California; and his many dear nephews and nieces. His funeral will be held on Friday morning, April 20, 2012, beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with Military Honors will be private for his family at a later date in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, April 19, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home. His family has requested that memorial donations in his memory be made to Mercy Hospice, 1236 Main Street, Suite 303, Holyoke, MA 01040.
