Richard P. “Dick” Zampitella, 73, a lifelong resident of Medford and Malden, passed away suddenly on April 14, 2012. He was the devoted husband for 22 years of Virginia (Finnegan) Zampitella and of the late Tina (Cardarelli) Zampitella who passed away at age 44. Born in Melrose, Richard owned and operated Gloria Food Store on Main St. in Malden for 27 years. A train enthusiast, Mr. Zampitella was currently working for Charles Ro Trains.
In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by his children: William Zampitella and his wife Maria of Malden, Paula Phenix and her husband Robert of Tewksbury, Richard Zampitella, Jr. and his wife Tracy of Tewksbury and Christine Gori her husband Jason of Wakefield. Dick is further survived by his brothers: Louis, Stephen and Gene Zampitella and was pre-deceased by his brother William Zampitella. He was the beloved grandfather of Matthew, Michael, Lindsay, Andrew, Zachary and Ethan, and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held from the A.J. Spadafora Funeral Home 865 Main St., Malden, on Wednesday, April 18 at 9:00am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis of Assisi Church 441 Fellsway West, Medford, MA at 10:00AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden. Visiting Hours are Tuesday, April 17th from 4-8 pm. Late veteran U.S. Coast Guard.
