Mary Ellen Ekstrand, 69

Mary Ellen (Gatanti) Ekstrand, 69, of Norton, passed away peacefully on Saturday April 14, 2012 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of Frederick A. Ekstrand, Sr., to whom she was wed on May 22, 1965.
Born in Brockton, MA on December 19, 1942, she was a loving daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Ellen (Brawders) Gatanti.
She grew up in Brockton, was educated in St. Patrick’s Schools and was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School.
A resident of Norton for over 40 years, Mrs. Ekstrand was a retired technician, having worked for Boston Scientific in Mansfield for over 10 years, prior to retiring.
Mary Ellen was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton. She enjoyed gardening, needlework, and activities around her home. Her favorite times spent were those in the presence of her adoring family, especially with her grandchildren.
In addition to her beloved husband of nearly 47 years, she is survived by her devoted children; Mary Ann White and her husband William of Attleboro, Frederick A. Ekstrand, Jr. and Joseph V. Ekstrand both of Raynham, and Peter M. Ekstrand of Norton. She was the cherished grandmother of Morgan A. White and Zachary E. White both of Atteboro. She was predeceased by her siblings.
Her Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Wednesday April 18th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial will follow in the Timothy Plain Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday April 17th from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
