Robert M. Young
Marine Corps Veteran and Retired Cambridge Fire Fighter
TEWKSBURY: Robert M. Young, age 73, a resident of Tewksbury for 36 years, formerly of Arlington and Cambridge, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the Lowell General Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of Joan M. (Cassidy) Young.
Born in Cambridge on November 14, 1938, he was the son of the late John C. Young and the late Margaret (Brockway) Young.
Robert was raised in Cambridge and attended Cambridge Schools.
Following high school, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he attained the rank of Lance Corporal. Robert was honorably discharged from active duty in February of 1959.
Prior to his retirement, he served for 20 years as a Fire Fighter for the City of Cambridge.
Robert was a member of the Blazing Star Eureka Masonic Lodge of Concord, NH. In addition, he was a Legion of Honor member of the Bektash Shriners of New Hampshire and a 32nd Degree Member of the Scottish Rite.
In addition to his beloved wife Joan, he is survived by one son, Michael R. Young of Tewksbury; one daughter, Leann Young of Lowell; one brother, John Young and his wife Fay of Somerville; one sister, Marjorie Duarte and her late husband John of Cambridge; two nieces and one nephew; and many extended family members and friends.
Calling hours will be held Monday, April 16, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet the family at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, at the Tewksbury Cemetery, 172 East Street, Tewksbury, MA for his Graveside Services. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114.
