Obituary

Ronald Clinton Vernet, 77, passed away April 13, 2012 at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.

He was born on December 10, 1934 in Medford MA the son of the late Reginald and Betty Vernet. He attended Lowell (MA) High School and the University of Connecticut where he played varsity football and was a member of the 1956 Yankee Conference Championship team.

Most of his life he was involved in various areas of horticulture, including owner of Shea's Greenhouse in Norwich. In his spare time, he was an avid sportsman; enjoying football, hockey, tennis, golf, boating

He is survived by his spouse of 54 years, Gail Vernet whom he married on June 14, 1958; his children, Gregory Vernet & Lorraine Paterson, and Bradley & Katy Vernet; his grandchildren; Cody, Emmye, and Martin Vernet; a brother, Reginald Vernet and spouse Jan; and his mother and father in-law, Ralph & Lynn Pierpoint and their children. He is also survived by his loyal labrador retriever, Jake.

Ron's family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Monday, April 16th from 3 to 5pm. A reception will be held in Ron's honor at a later date.
