Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Gemma M. “Mémè” (Coté) Gosselin, 90, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield and a former resident of Linden Towers in Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, April 12, 2012. She passed into Eternal Life from her home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers from Mercy Hospice. She was born in Levis, Province of Quebec, Canada on November 9, 1921, a beloved daughter of the late Honoré and Olivine (Mercier) Coté. She was raised in Levis and settled in the North End section of Springfield in 1950. She previously worked in the housekeeping department for the Appleton Corporation, the former owners of Linden Towers, on Stafford Street in Springfield. She was a communicant of the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield where she was a member of their Ladies of Saint Anne Sodality. She was currently a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. She was a loving woman who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. Besides her parents and 20 siblings, she was predeceased by her husband, Stanislas J. Gosselin, who was Called Home on May 24, 1985. She leaves: her loving children, Roger S. Gosselin and his wife, Jean, of the Feeding Hills section of Agawam and Jeannine M. Nolds of Springfield; her five cherished grandchildren; her 10 cherished great grandchildren; her three cherished great-great grandchildren; and her many dear nephews and nieces. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, April 17, 2012, beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107 (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home in the Chapin Chapel on Monday, April 16, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Her family has requested that memorial donations in her memory be made to the Alzheimers Association of Western Mass, 264 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
