Mark A. Richard, 53, of New Bedford, died Wednesday April 11, 2012 at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Anne E. (Mikina) Richard.
Born in New Bedford, the son of Paul and Doris (Castonguay) Richard of New Bedford, he resided in New Bedford all of his life. He was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School, Class of 1976.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, where he was also a Eucharistic Minister.
Mark was employed by NStar Gas as a gas planner.
He enjoyed canoeing and fishing. He had been a coach for Whaling City Little League. He was an avid New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics fan.
Mark lived his life for his sons and his most precious moments were with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife; his parents; three sons, Jeffrey, Thomas and Jonathan, all of New Bedford; three brothers, Michael Richard and his wife Patricia of Acushnet, Kevin Richard and his wife Karen of Dartmouth, and Kenneth Richard and his wife Debra of New Bedford; a sister, Karen Szwaja and her husband Paul of New Bedford; his mother-in-law, Grace Mikina of New Bedford; and several nieces and nephews, including his Godson, Matthew Richard.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 AM at St. Mary's Church, Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 3-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Community Nurse and Hospice Care, P.O.
