Obituary

CHICOPEE – Gaetane C. “Ginger” (Pleau) LaCosse, 90, of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, April 10, 2012. She passed into Eternal Life surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in St. Roch-de-L’Achigan, Province of Quebec, Canada on October 8, 1921, a beloved daughter of the late Dr. Stephanus and Diane (Choquette) Pleau. Her family settled in Holyoke in 1927 where she was raised and graduated from the former Precious Blood Elementary and High Schools. She moved to Chicopee in 1941 where she lived for the remainder of her life. On May 30, 1942, she married her beloved husband, Francis E. LaCosse, at Saint Theresa of Lisieux Church in South Hadley. They enjoyed over 57 years of happiness together before he was Called Home on October 5, 1999. Her working career spanned many years. She first worked as a teller at the former Valley Bank in Springfield and then as a customer service representative at the former Third National Bank in Springfield. She retired as a senior customer service officer from the former Bank of New England in Springfield. Active in her faith, she was a longtime volunteer at Saint Francis Chapel on Bridge Street in Springfield and at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. At the age of 70, Ginger learned to play the organ and was a member of the Sounds of Music Organ Club, which is now part of Falcetti Music. She was a longtime communicant of the former Saint George Church in Chicopee Falls and is a current communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. She was a loving woman who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her loving son, Gerald E. “Jerry” LaCosse, who was Called Home on February 24, 2010. She leaves: her devoted children, Robert F. LaCosse and his wife, JoAnn, of Springfield and Diane M. LaCosse of Ludlow; her cherished grandchildren whom she adored, Scott LaCosse and his wife, Amy, of Nashua, NH and Todd LaCosse of Monson; her cherished great-granddaughter, Addison LaCosse; and a longtime family friend, Alan Buchanan of Greensboro, NC. Her family would like to especially thank her wonderful caregivers at Mont Marie in Holyoke and most especially, Tricia Patterson, Margo Roy and Rita Martin. A special note of appreciation is given by her family to Carole St. Marie who was her long term caregiver and a trusted friend. Her funeral will be held on Friday morning, April 13, 2012, beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 11:45 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends in the funeral home in the Rose Chapel on Thursday, April 12, 2012 (Today) from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family has requested that memorial donations in her memory be made to the Sainte Rose de Lima Church Organ Fund, 15 Chapel Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 or to Mont Marie Health Care Center, 36 Lower Westfield Road, Holyoke, MA 01040.
