Obituary

ROCHE, Jason B., M.D. of Yarmouth Port formerly of Braintree, Hingham, and Naples, FL passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 after a brief illness.

He was the son of the late Dr. Riley E. Roche and the late Julia Roche of Sidney, NE. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Joan M. Roche; one daughter, Susan Bailey and her husband Stephen of Norwell; three sons, Jason B. Roche, Jr. and his wife Mary Lou of Fort Mill, SC, Michael Roche and his wife Cathy of Birmingham, AL and Mark Roche and his wife Barbara of Berrien Springs, MI. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Julie Roche Stokes, Amy, Jason, Jackie and Jillian Roche and Bryan and Adam Bailey. He is also survived by three great grandchildren, Brendon and Mary Bailey and Gavin Stokes.

Born in Sidney, NE in 1921, Dr. Roche was a graduate of Creighton University and Creighton University Medical School, Omaha, NE completing his studies in 1945; he was a member of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities 1944- 1945. After his internship at Boston City Hospital, he served in the U.S. Army for two years after World War II, stationed at the Veterans Hospital in Miami, FL. Following that, he practiced in Sidney, NE with his father for four years and then moved his practice to Braintree, where he was a general practitioner for over 40 years. He served the community by performing physicals for the Boy Scouts and clergy and acting as team doctor for Braintree High School sport teams for over 20 years. In addition, he was the plant doctor for Armstrong Cork in Braintree for 38 years. An active member of the Knights of Columbus, he was a Fourth Degree Knight. He was also a past president of South Shore Medical Society and a member of the Braintree Rotary. After retiring from private practice, he continued to assist other doctors in surgery at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, MA. Upon retirement, Dr. Roche split his time between Cape Cod and Naples, FL, where he volunteered at the North Naples Hospital for over 10 years. Dr. Roche was past member of the Quincy Neighborhood Club and Hatherly Country Club in Scituate. Dr. Roche loved his family, traveling, golf, all animals, and all sports.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours Friday, April 13, 2012 at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave. SOUTH YARMOUTH, from 4:00-7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 856 Washington St. South Braintree, on Saturday April 14, at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made in Dr. Roche’s memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 220 North Main Street, Suite 104, Natick, MA 01760.
